Driving fast cars around a race circuit and receiving a brand-new iPad Air 2 tablet free-of-charge – these are the recent experiences of LifeConnect24 personal alarm user Alan Whiteside, who is the winner of our ‘How do you wear yours?’ competition.
Alan sent our team photographs of him wearing his pendant whilst enjoying a game or two of snooker and they instantly became a favourite here in the office. After taking a look through all of our entries the team decided that Alan’s photos were worthy winners and the brand-new iPad Air 2 was sent to his front door.
Speaking about his prize, a delighted Mr Whiteside said:
Absolute amazement and pleasure at winning! I’m 80-years-old now and it’s the first competition I’ve ever won. I will be using the iPad to keep in touch with my family using FaceTime. One of my daughters is local but my other daughter lives in Plymouth with her family. It will be lovely to be able to see them as well as speak to them. I will also be using it to email my friends and to take photographs.”
It has been a great few weeks for Alan, who also fulfilled a life-long ambition to drive his favourite sports car around a racing circuit. The 80-year-old drove an Aston Martin race car around the Thruxton race course in Hampshire last month.
Whilst speaking about his competition win, Alan also told us about life with a personal alarm system in his home, and the reasons why he chose to become an alarm user. Alan suffers with breathing problems and was advised by his daughter that he should consider a personal alarm.
Alan explained: “I have a condition called Pulmonary Fibrosis which causes me to have breathing problems. I keep as active as I can but sometimes it is hard to catch my breath and I have to use oxygen to help me. My daughter told me about the Lifeline Alarms and suggested that I got one for myself. “I have chosen to wear the pendant as a bracelet as I find it more practical for me and as I’m used to wearing a watch, it feels very comfortable on my wrist. Alan has been with LifeConnect24 since the start of the year and he already feels more secure and confident at home and whilst taking part in everyday activities. Alan, who has lived in Romsey, Hampshire for the past five years, now feels reassured that help is available if he needs it. Mr Whiteside said: “I feel much more secure and very reassured that somebody is on the other end of the line if I need them. The alarm gives me a feeling of security and allows me to carry on doing the things I need to do.
“It also helps my wife, Ann, to know that I have the Lifeline in case I am taken unwell. I have to fill my oxygen bottle up every day and this is stored in a shed outside our block of flats so it’s good knowing that the Lifeline will work there, as I used to worry that no one would know quickly if I was in trouble.”
