To coincide with the Time for a Cuppa launch week Lifeline24 would like to let you know about our Time for a Cuppa Event.
The Time for a Cuppa launch week will run from Tuesday, March 1 to Tuesday, March 8 and will see people across the country hosting ‘parties’ to try and raise as much money as possible for Dementia UK.
About Dementia
Dementia is collective name for a range of neurological disorders. Each type of dementia has its own symptoms and will effect each person in a different way. Some symptoms of the condition include:
- Memory loss/problems
- Weakened cognitive ability – confusion when visiting unfamiliar environments and difficulty orientating time and place.
- Problems with communication – People may begin to repeat themselves or have difficulty finding the right words to say.
- Problems with reading and writing.
- change in Personality and behaviour
Dementia has a huge presence here in the UK and it is predicted that the number of people with the condition will continue to rise over the next decade. According to the The Alzheimer’s Society there were over 850,000 people living with dementia last year.
It is reported that around 40,000 of these cases are those who have Young Onset Dementia, which affects people under the age of 65. This can have a huge affect on people as they may still be working and have young children to look after.
It is estimated that this number will increase to over one million people by 2025.
Time for a Cuppa
The Time for a Cuppa event’s aim is to raise money for the Dementia UK charity so that they can continue to help families who live with the condition. They have their own Admiral Nurses who give families expert help and advice to try and help them cope as much as possible.
The Admiral Nurses often work within the NHS, other local authorities or private companies. They help families learn more about dementia and how to live with the condition.
Money raised from the events held across the country will help to fund the Admiral Nurses scheme and to further develop the treatment and care of people living with the condition.
Our Event
Our Time for a Cuppa event takes place this Thursday and we will have plenty of cakes, treats and drinks on offer to help raise as much money as possible for Dementia UK. Keep checking our blog and Facebook page in the days following our event to see pictures and to find out how much money we managed to raise.
Time for a Cuppa is a nationwide event and will be running throughout March so why not take the time to host your own event or see if there are companies in your area hosting a party. Bring out your creative side with your cake recipes or play some cool games to help raise money.
We can all do our bit to keep improving the diagnosis, treatment and lifestyle of those who have dementia here in the UK.
