Installing the Lifeline Alarm

Do you have questions about installing your Lifeline Alarm? Please see below for answers to the most frequently asked questions about installing your Lifeline Alarm.

Can I use broadband with my personal alarm?

Yes. The alarm works in the same way as a standard landline telephone, so it will work alongside a broadband connection. You simply need to make sure you have an ADSL filter and this should already be connected to your main landline socket. If you need an ADSL filter and can`t locate one you should be able to request this from your current broadband or telephone provider. Your alarm will connect to either the “Phone” or “Analogue” socket in your ADSL filter, whereas your broadband will be connected to the “Modem” section.

Using the phone adapter provided, you will be able to plug your telephone handset into the back of the alarm unit. This way, the alarm, your telephone and your broadband can work alongside each other.

How long are the cables?

The telephone cable is three metres long and the power cable is two and a half metres long.

Is the pendant waterproof?

All our alarm pendants are certified water-resistant, including the MyAmie red button and the Vibby Fall Detector.

However, we do advise against submerging your pendant in bath water for prolonged periods, as the soaps and oils may affect the seals.

What do the buttons on my alarm mean?

There are three buttons on your alarm unit, each serving its own purpose. Pressing the red Help button will activate a call to our Response Team, just like pressing your pendant button. The green button is a Cancel button, however, there is no need to press it. If you raise the alarm by accident, just let our Response Team know when they answer the call. They'll be happy to know that everything is alright.

If you are going to be away from your home for an extended period of time, we ask that you notify us by calling 0800 999 0400 so that we can update your account. At this stage, we may ask you to press your yellow Home/Away button, but we do not recommend doing this without notifying us beforehand.

For more information, take a look at our in-depth guide to the personal alarm.

What is the range of the pendant?

Both the MyAmie alarm button and Vibby Fall Detector have a range of up to 100 metres. This is more than enough to cover the entirety of the average home and garden in the UK.
